Welcome to another of what I hope to be many magick guides on this site, the third thus far! This one is not nearly as advanced or difficult as the first two, and walks you through step-by-step even as a total beginner to magick and occultism in general. The exercises here helped me to shape my current working model of the metaphysics explained in the second part of my DAEMON System creation guide, but you needn't read or understand any of that to proceed through this guide and these exercises. You'll be learning and practicing three key concepts here: "tracing" in your mindspace, connecting to another person's unique energy signature or "aura" to establish a "frequency link," and then combining the two to play with a basic visual form of telepathy. Wowza! It sounds like some anime bullshit, but as you'll see the final exercise involves a double-blind verification element, and I can tell you from many years of experience doing this with many participants: this shit works.
Alright, enough disclaimer. Let's dive into the first part!
CONCEPT ONE: MINDSPACE "TRACING"
To "trace" in your mindspace is surprisingly simple. You just need to decide what image you wish to project/view, break it down into repeatable segments, and then loop the sequence until you're satisfied with the results. This is not the same as "imagining" something, to be clear--anybody can envision anything. This is basically drawing something in your actual field of vision as a means of very subtle percieved reality manipulation.
The first diagram a ways down below shows a basic exercise to build this skill. Close your eyes and give a few seconds for existing visual stimuli to fade. Then start with one line or stroke at a time, build onto it, and repeat. You aren't actually moving your gaze, your entire closed eye "canvas" stays inert. Think of it like a cursor on a computer that you're using to consciously draw on the "canvas" with.
(If you're comfortable with chakra work already, engaging the third eye may be helpful: it's not required, but it can really make it feel more comfortable and concrete. You can envision it like one of those little touch nubs on old business laptops... subtle directional manipulation of the third eye chakra guides the "cursor" on the "canvas." If you aren't at a point where this is feasible or understandable, don't fret... I wasn't yet when I developed this or for the initial years of doing the full experiments/exercises written in this guide.)
Continue in the same exact places with each repeated stroke until you start to have a fascimile of the shape or symbol in place, then repeat until it's tangible enough for your tastes. If the shape below for some reason gives you trouble, you may also replace it with another shape or with a number or letter, really anything... it's just about the process. If straight separated lines give you trouble, try making an 8 or an infinity sign as one continuous stroke "circuit" instead. Once you master individual strokes or circuit strokes, I recommend practicing the other. They're both helpful tools to have.
The highest level you can reach with this is where you still see the projected image upon opening your eyes and/or blinking, as if it had been temporarily "burned in" to your retinas by a physical light source. If this doesn't happen, don't fret--it's rare and takes a lot of repetition. Don't be discouraged if it doesn't work quickly, or on the first try--there are lots of factors that go into this, many of which are beyond your control. It doesn't always work quickly or easily even for me; anything from ambient light or lack thereof to eye strain or lack thereof or sobriety or lack thereof can influence this process. Don't expect consistency or success every time, especially not swiftly, but do stick with it--the individual skills being trained here are crucial, and any practice is helping it become muscle/consciousness memory. With practice/patience/reptition, this is absolutely doable for/by anybody. Those with magick experience may grasp it quicker, but I've had no issues working with complete newbies to establish the same, many times.
Now we're far enough in you can start to imagine the real fun--while it's not as mindblowing as a shared dream "SMS" experience, you can absolutely practice a simple form of "shared mindspace" by connecting these "canvases" with another magician (or open-minded participant). Make sure they understand the basics first, and are comfortable with the process shown in the first diagram and explained above. You're going to be switching off as part of this exercise, so they'll need to get the basics down like you have by this point. For this part to work, you don't need to be amazing at it yet, though, or able to make it super tangible. I can usually get a new participant to the point they can do this within about 10-20 minute of guided training/explanation, though your mileage may vary.
CONCEPT TWO: FREQUENCY LINK
There's another skill you need to hone first: the second of three skills covered here, the creation and maintenance of a basic "frequency link." If you're both seasoned in aura magick, this is as simple as connecting to each other's aura and then continuing to the third concept. If you're not, fret not as this tutorial will also get you started on that! You don't need to have aura manipulation abilities for this, or even be able to make any helpful "read" of another's aura, but it does help you begin to get aware of it. If you don't think you need this section, you can skip to the content after the next diagram. Otherwise, congratulations--you're about to make another exciting leap in your magickal journey. See the diagram below, the paragraphs following it will elaborate:
Every "ETHERIFORM" (consider it a "consciousness unit" or "soul" if you will) vibrates at a unique frequency that can be tuned to like a radio station's. You almost certainly pick up on these and retain them from the people who matter to you without even realizing it. Picture somebody you absolutely loathe, and somebody you absolutely love, and I'm sure you'll feel a physical difference in yourself while recalling how they make you feel. Now hone in on that concept--picture somebody else you loathe and/or love and compare the physical sensation. You'll note that there are subtle differences in the physical part of this energetic recall, even among those who fall into similar categories. Fine-tune your awareness to the spot where you feel these differences the most strongly (for me, it's roughly where people describe the solar plexus chakra as being, the area beneath the heart and above the naval, though your mileage may vary) and then think of somebody else in your life. What "feeling" do they give there? We're in tune with others' frequencies even when we don't consciously "read" them, and you'll find that you already have a "read" on basically anybody when you know where to "look" for it.
That unique sensation that's not quite an emotion, not quite a temperature, not quite a texture, but very physically present and yet tied to your conscious recall of the being: that is their "aura," at least as you perceive it. And that "as you perceive" bit does a lot of heavy lifting, here: it's not important that you can even verbalize or visualize the sensation to anybody else, because it's the specific sensation that this individual gave your etheric self when exposed to them: in other words, it's the specific sensation that you feel from their frequency. Therefore, focusing on this sensation will act as a means of consciously and purposefully re-connecting to their unique frequency, or "aura." You're just using the shortcut to accomplish this that your bodies both physical and etheric have already recorded.
(This is the core of "aura reading" as well, as least one approach to diving into it. I've found by comparing double-blind readings of the same people with other magicians that, once you've honed this to distinguish "colors" or "textures" or the like from it, there's a nearly-universal nature to these: somebody I perceive as "blue and purple, soft, grounded" is likely to be described the same way by another similarly-capable magician. But for the purposes of this exercise and guide, you don't need to do any processing or parsing of their frequency or try to "view" it in any other context: just know that this method has proven very capable when built upon throughout my travels/testing.)
That's the first method of establishing a "frequency link" for the purposes of a shared mindspace experience. You'll note there are two others in the diagram--they both rely upon a basic understanding of this first method, but they may be helpful in achieving results with it, especially if you're having trouble discerning the frequency from just the first technique alone. The second is the "Music Method" and is what it sounds like: using music to aid the process. This is mostly helpful for advanced distance versions of the third exercise, as you can use a song that reminds you of a person's frequency to latch onto it even when they are not physically present, but it may be helpful "in-person" as well, especially if you both have headphones and can use a song for the other person.
The third method is to create a physical "energy circuit" by holding hands while you do the rest and/or touching your third-eye chakra (foreheads) together for a more direct/strong connection. I personally only use the music method for long-distance connection and find the forehead circuit can be distracting, but they've helped beginners to the concepts to achieve the "frequency link" in different tests. Rely upon the first method and only build onto it as needed, would be my suggestion. Once you have that "frequency" locked-on, try to focus on it as you close your eyes and create that "canvas." If you both stay locked-on to each others' frequencies, you'll establish a shared "canvas," which is the ultimate goal of this guide, and takes us on to the third concept/exercise.
CONCEPT THREE: SHARED MINDSPACE VISUAL TELEPATHY
Once you and your mindlink partner have managed to both trace something in your respective mindspaces individually and to establish a frequency link, it's time to put it all together. Before you begin, I recommend a distraction-free, quiet-or-white-noise-filled environment where you can both relax and focus. This should be fun and exciting, not frustrating or nerve-wracking! You'll also both need some sort of way to document for the double-blind experiment, be it pieces of paper and writing utensils or "notes" sections of a mobile device or whatnot.
This is also when you will decide who will first "transmit" and who will first "receive." The transmitter will be the one tracing the symbol for the receiver to view, and the receiver will be the one, well, viewing it. You can and should switch off roles as you continue to experiment, but to begin with it's best if the individual who's more comfortable with CONCEPT ONE (tracing) to transmit first and for the individual who's more comfortable with CONCEPT TWO (frequency-link) to receive. Once this is accomplished, you can move on to the real fun: see the diagram below and the explanatory paragraphs which follow:
Before you achieve frequency-link, the transmitter will privately document what they're going to transmit, without showing the receiver: for instance, will it be a square? A circle? Figure 8? The number 5? This should be done out of sight of the receiver on a piece of paper or using a digital equivalent. The receiver will have a similar tool on hand to document after the transmission, but they will not use it yet. Next, frequency-link should be established with eyes closed. You should "feel" this on some subtle level, but if you're not sure, you can set an arbitrary goal like "we both tune into each other's frequencies for thirty seconds before continuing" or just say "good to go" or whatnot if you don't think that will break your focus/concentration.
The transmitter will then begin tracing their pre-determined symbol on repeat. Even if they're able to hold the tangible image after a few traces, it's important for the receiver's purposes for the transmitter to continue the sequence of strokes on repeat the whole time. Their "canvas" will be more tangible than the receiver's, but the receiver should keep a blank canvas while focusing on the frequency of the transmitter, and within a bit of time they should begin to "see" the symbol traced within their OWN canvas, BY the transmitter! It will likely be a bit "rough," especially the first times this is attempted by a given duo, but the difference between say a square and a circle or the number 5 and a triangle should be incredibly clear even if the lines aren't quite perfect or quite as "burned in" as on the transmitter's canvas.
Once the receiver confirms they've gotten the image, they should quickly document it themselves. It's less important for the transmitter to not see them do this as vice versa since the transmitter already documented their image in advance. At this point, the transmitter and receiver will show each other their documented images. In my experience, in cases where the frequency link was successful and an image was actually received (the only way in which the receiver can even document an image to compare), there is a greater than 90% chance of these matching each time! Of course, don't be discouraged if they don't match, or if the image isn't clear: practice makes perfect, and there are a lot of moving parts here, especially if some or all of the underlying concepts are new to either or both participants. Simply continue with the exercise. If you're getting some semblance of an image as the receiver but it's not tangible enough to make total sense of, it can help to establish a category beforehand: like "This will be a number" or "This will be a shape." The double-blind confirmation is of course more impressive without this, but it doesn't negate the veracity of the results.
After each round (or after several, if you're getting good results or noticing improvement), you should switch transmitter and receiver. Of course, you should take care to not repeat the same images or risk falling into a pattern with it. The goal is psychic transmission/communication, not pattern recognition. If you had great difficulty with either arrangement getting anything at all to show up for the receiver, you can always pause to train on tracing and/or frequency linkage and then try again. Sometimes external factors hinder this, as well--it's important to not get discouraged. Just keep trying and returning to it and it WILL eventually yield results.
This is just the basics, and can of course be expounded upon. With enough repetition and training with the same individual, I managed to get to where we could send colors and colored symbols back and forth as easily as we could in monochrome, and that was really something! In theory I'm sure you can expand this eventually to more complex images, 3D shapes, the works--I've just never gotten to work with the same individual for long enough and with enough repetition to build up to it.
I should also mention that, like I alluded to with the Music Method for CONCEPT TWO, this is very much possible long-distance--it's just harder to accomplish the initial frequency link with someone you haven't gotten a "read" on before. I've done this before a lot back on Skype (showing my age, I know) with people in my then-coven and potential apprentices, and remarkably when the frequency link went through (as it always eventually did) the quality and accuracy of both transmitting and receiving did not suffer at all versus in-person sessions, even with those states away. I eventually got to where I could even do this with someone I'd never met in person and still get excellent results. This seems to be a connection that operates on a level where "physical" space and distance don't factor in, which is remarkable and helped/continues to help with the overarching metaphysical theories I indulge in.
I do have one final word of warning about this: it's possible you may receive some sort of interference during this process, like how a radio station sometimes picks up some staticy bits of a song or conversation from another. This is very rare and has only happened once to me, but both of us engaged in the exercise had our "canvas" overwhelmed with WILDLY tangible, fast-flying triangles that had an almost 3D or parallax effect to their movement. We quickly let up on the frequency link, confirmed we'd both witnessed it, and decided to stop for the evening. Nothing bad came of it, but we didn't want to try to fight through it to transmit or receive. This only ever happened in a "long-distance" frequency link to a magician I'd trained with in person many times, for what that is or isn't worth, though I don't think it was related as it still only happened once and never happened with inter-state long-distance sessions. I truly doubt this will ever happen to you, but if it does, don't panic and just disconnect from each other. You can try again a bit later.
